These are the charcoal portraits my daughter, Erin, gave to me for Christmas before Maddy and Charlie passed away from cancer in January. 2012 had a bumpy start for my family and me. In January, two of our dogs passed away. They had been with us 12 years and they and my daughters grew up together. It is always hard to lose a family member. I have lost several in my life, not just pets, but my parents, a brother, and several others as well as some friends. Death isn't new to me, yet it feels deeper each time. While it can make it tougher to take, it gives me an opportunity to reflect on the many I have loved and lost. And how fortunate I am to have had them in my life. I may not always show my appreciation to the best of my ability, but it is a life long goal of mine to improve that.
